A limestone outcrop located just north of Kuala Lumpur, Batu Caves has three main caves featuring temples and Hindu shrines. Its main attraction is the large statue of the Hindu God at the entrance, besides a steep 272 climb up its steps to finally view the stunning skyline of the city centre. Monkeys frolic around the caves, and it is a popular spot for rock climbing enthusiasts. Paintings and scenes of Hindu Gods can also be seen in the Ramayana Cave. Kuala Lumpur Communication Tower (also known as Menara KL or KL Tower) is open daily from 09.00am to 10.00pm.

Day 3

Explore Melaka, about 2.5 hours’ drive south of Kuala Lumpur, with a day trip. The historical town is a UNESCO World Heritage Cultural Site and has great significance in Malaysia's history as one of the most strategic ports on the sea route between Europe and Asia. In Melaka, you will visit Porta de Santiago, St. Paul's Church, the Red Square, Kampung Kling Mosque and Cheng Hoon Teng Temple. Built under the command of Afonso de Albuquerque upon his arrival on Malayan soil in 1511, the Portuguese fortress - A'Famosa - is one of the oldest surviving European architectural remains in Asia. In its heyday, the fortress had a 4-storey keep, long ramparts and 4 major towers with village houses within its protective walls.

Today, the last surviving remnant of such historical times is the gatehouse: Porta de Santiago. Perched atop St. Paul's Hill (also known as Melaka Hill) is the ruins of St. Paul's Church is one of the oldest churches to be built in Malaysia. The Red Square (also known as the Dutch Square or Stadhuys) is a must-see when in Melaka. The Stadhuys was built in the mid-1600's and is the oldest Dutch building in Asia. Its red walls make for an unmistakable sight. In the past, it has served as an administrative centre, not just for Malaysia, but also for the Dutch and even the British. Today, it is the Museum of History & Ethnography with displays of traditional costumes and artifacts throughout the history of Melaka (entrance not included).

Beside the Stadhuys is Christ Church, an Anglican Church founded by the Dutch in the 1753 and the oldest functioning Protestant church in Malaysia. Originally white, this Dutch-colonial style building was re-painted in 1911 to match with the other Dutch-era buildings of the Red Square. Right in the middle of the square is Tang Beng Swee Clock Tower and all around it, you will see many Melaka trishaws with its loud and colourful displays which puts one of the mindsets of male birds trying to attract attention. The Cheng Hoon Teng Temple is the oldest functioning temple in Malaysia and practices the 3 Buddhist doctrines of Taoism, Confucianism, and Buddhism. In the same area is the Kampung Kling Mosque and Sri Poyatha Moorthi Temple (oldest functioning temple in Malaysia). Due to their historical significance, religious diversity, and close proximity, the street has become known as 'Harmony Street'. Lunch is not included with this tour. However, if you have some time, we recommend that you take a walk along the nearby famous Jonker Street. On this street, food is easy to find. For those looking for a local taste, we recommend Melaka's signature dish: Chicken Rice Balls (a chicken dish served with golf-ball sized rice). For the hungry, add on a side-dish of Ipoh bean sprouts, the perfect companion to Chicken Rice Balls. For dessert, Sago Pudding with Gula Melaka (a type of palm sugar) or Chendol are Malaysian favourites.

Explore the ruins of this old fort and see cannons and other artifacts from the early 1900s that overlook the expansive wetlands at the base of the hill. The high ground provided a vantage point of view to monitor the ships that passed by the Straits of Malacca. If you’re lucky, you may spot silvered-leaf monkeys and rare species of bird and butterflies native to this region. At dusk, proceed to a nearby fishing village for a seafood dinner. You’ll dine on the fresh catch of the day, giving you a taste of authentic Malaysian flavors. After dinner, take a short drive to Kampung Kuantan to board a typical Malaysian wooden rowboat. Relax and enjoy the lush scenery as your skilled oarsmen row upstream through mangroves. As you enter the darkness of the night, you’ll witness one of nature’s most incredible phenomena – tiny twinkling lights of thousands of fireflies swarming among the trees. This is a truly magical sight! And then, at the end of the tour, you’ll be transferred back to your hotel afterward with a fantastic story to tell.
