A private journey, for women travelling together

Seven nights · Eight days

The difference

What makes this trip.

The moments a fixed departure can't reach: private, named, and ours alone to arrange.

01

Female guides throughout

In every city on the route, arranged before you land, chosen for knowledge first.

02

The zenana courts

The women's quarters of the palaces, read by a woman who knows what they were for.

03

Bagru's printing tables

A block-printing workshop where the craft passes from mother to daughter.

04

A family kitchen

Dinner cooked with the matriarch of a Jaipur household, at her own stove.

05

Rooms placed deliberately

Position considered as carefully as the view, in every house on the route.

The journey

For women, together

The palace route, rebuilt around women travelling together: the same great houses, with female guides throughout, drivers we have used for years, and doors that open differently, from the printing tables of Bagru to the zenana courts the palaces were built around. Seven nights, eight days, and one contact who answers at any hour.

The Imperial, evening
Highlights
Met at the gate, walked past the queues
A driver whose name you already know
A quiet first dinner

Your flight is met at the gate and the queues are someone else's problem. The driver who takes you into the city is the driver you will have for the whole of the north: you were sent his name and photograph before you flew. The Imperial receives you with rooms placed as requested, close together and well positioned. The first evening asks nothing: a walk under the palms, dinner at a corner table, an early night against the time change.

Delhi, late light at the tombs
Highlights
Old Delhi with a female historian
The textile rooms of the Crafts Museum
Dinner in a family home

Old Delhi in the morning with your guide, a historian who has walked these lanes for twenty years: the courtyard of the Jama Masjid, the wedding street, the spice market from a quiet rooftop. The afternoon is spent in the textile rooms of the Crafts Museum, an hour that changes how you see every fabric for the rest of the trip. In the evening, dinner in a family home in Nizamuddin, cooked and hosted by the women of the house, which is an introduction to India no restaurant can make.

Rambagh, the lawns at dusk
Highlights
The same driver, the familiar car
Lunch at a country haveli
Evening on the Rambagh lawns

The drive south to Jaipur is an easy half day in the car that now feels like yours, broken with lunch at a country haveli. Rambagh Palace was the Jaipur royal family's home before it received guests, and its lawns at dusk, peacocks included, are the correct introduction to Rajasthan. The evening is unprogrammed: the spa, the veranda, a drink where the Maharani once took hers.

Amber, from the lake
Highlights
Amber Fort in the first hour
The zenana read properly
The City Palace by afternoon

Amber Fort as the gates open, before the coaches. With a woman guiding, the fort reads differently: the zenana courts, the screened galleries, the architecture of seeing without being seen, explained as the working world it was rather than a curiosity. The City Palace follows in the afternoon, including quarters opened privately by arrangement. The evening is the old city's bazaars with your guide, who knows which jewellers quote the first honest price.

Bagru, cloth drying in the sun
Highlights
Bagru's mother-to-daughter workshop
Your own block to carve and print
Cooking with a household matriarch

Out to Bagru, where the block-printing workshops still run on family lines and the tables pass from mother to daughter. The morning is hands-on: dye vats, teak blocks, and a length of cloth you print yourself and keep. Back in Jaipur, the evening is spent in a family kitchen, cooking with the matriarch of the house, measurements by eye and stories included, and then eating what the two of you made. It is consistently the day guests name afterwards.

The Lake Palace across the water
Highlights
The short flight south
Arrival by boat
The lake at dusk

A short flight replaces a long road, because comfort is a decision. By early afternoon you are at the jetty in Udaipur, and the Taj Lake Palace does the rest: the boat across Lake Pichola, the white marble rising off the water, the luggage following without being asked about. The evening is the lake itself, from the palace's own terraces, as the light goes copper and the pigeons turn.

Evening light, Lake Pichola
Highlights
The City Palace early
A miniature painter's studio
Sunset on the water

The City Palace early, before the courtyards fill, with its own zenana rooms to compare with Amber's. Then the studio of a miniature painter whose family has held the tradition for eleven generations. The afternoon is deliberately loose: the ghats, a rooftop lunch, the bazaar with your guide if the shopping list survived Jaipur. At sunset you are back on the water, drifting past the facades with nowhere to be.

Met through departure

Breakfast on the water, the boat to the jetty, and the short flight to Delhi, where you are met airside and walked through to the international departure. The same number that answered all week is still on, until each of you is home.
